Utilitran obtains information through this site from two principal sources: from service providers who provide such information in connection with an application for certification by Utilitran, and from individuals and companies who visit our site in order to locate Utilitran Certified services providers. In each case, Utilitran respects the privacy rights of the person submitting the information. Privacy is of great concern to most users of the Internet, and is a critical part of an enjoyable and satisfactory user experience. We are acutely aware of and sensitive to the privacy concerns of our certified service providers and other visitors to our website. Whether you are a Utilitran Certified service provider, an applicant for certification or a visitor to our site, we assure you that we do not collect personal information from you unless you provide it to us. If you are applying to become a Utilitran Certified service provider, you will be asked to provide certain information regarding your business that may be confidential and sensitive. Please note, however, that we are asking for this information for the limited purposes of assessing your application for certification. You should also be assured that we do not provide or sell information about our certified service providers, applicants or site visitors to vendors that are not involved in our certification process.

Applications for Certification

In order to apply for certification by Utilitran, an applicant for certification must first provide us with detailed information regarding the applicant and its business. This information is used to evaluate the applicant in order to determine whether Utilitran Certification should be issued to the applicant. This information is also required in order to contact the applicant about their application. Utilitran respects that this information is often confidential and may contain trade secrets of the applicant. We are committed to maintaining the strict confidence of this information, and will not distribute it to any other person in any way other than as specifically provided for in this privacy statement or the 'Certification Agreement' in the case of companies who are awarded certification.

Security

This website takes every precaution to protect our users' information. When users submit sensitive information via the website, we will take all reasonable steps to ensure that such information is protected both online and off-line. When users of the Utilitran website are asked to enter `banking or credit card information, that information is encrypted and is protected with the best encryption software in the industry - 128 bit SSL Certificates. While on a secure page, such as our order form, the lock icon on the bottom of Web browsers such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer becomes locked, as opposed to un-locked, or open, when you are just 'surfing'. While we use SSL encryption to protect sensitive information online, we also do everything in our power to protect user-information off-line. All of our applicants' information, not just the sensitive information mentioned above, is restricted in our offices. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, our billing clerk or a customer service representative) are granted access to personally identifiable information. Furthermore, ALL employees are kept up-to-date on our security and privacy practices. Finally, the servers that we store personally identifiable information on are kept in a secure environment. Supplementation of Information In order for this website to properly fulfill its obligation, it is necessary for us to supplement the information we receive with information from third party sources. For example, certain information provided by certification applicants, such as references, are confirmed with the references. Such information will only be sought and collected where an application for certification has been made.

Site and Service Updates

We may also from time to time send user site and service announcement updates. Utilitran Certified service providers are not able to un-subscribe from service announcements, which contain important information about the service. We communicate with the user to provide requested services and in regards to issues relating to their certification via email or phone.

Correction/Updating Information:

If a service company's identifiable information changes (such as your postal code), we will endeavour to provide a way to correct, update or remove that user's personal data provided to us. Emailing us can usually do this.

Notification of Changes

If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on our Homepage so our users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under circumstances, if any, we disclose it. If at any point we decide to use personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time it was collected, we would notify users by way of an email. Users will have a choice as to whether or not we use their information in this different manner. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy under which the information was collected.
